I took the workshop at St. Lawrence Market Kitchen last Saturday. The St Lawrence Market Kitchen was very impressive. I heard that you can rent the kitchen for function (ie. b-day party; anniversary..etc).

It was an awesome class. I learned some great tips for handling and making pastry dough; met some great chefs.

Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol

We don't watch movies at the theatre, that often anymore, but we went on a double date yesterday to watch Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.

Lots of action, some very far fetch scenario, but that's what I like about it. It's a great escape, if you want to watch an action movie. I like Simon Pegg and thought he was funny, as ever. I watched him for the first time in a movie called Run Fatboy Run.

I give this movie two thumbs up.

Strive to Improve

This year I'm going to focus and strive to improve on a couple of things.

Strive to Improve my Well Being by exercising well, eating well and sleeping well. I didn't really try my best in 2011 to lose the weight I've regained; didn't find time to exercise (found a lot more excuses not to....) and get a good 7-8 hours of sleep (which I've been accomplishing in the last three months).

Strive to Save Money and Improve my Spending Habits. This means less spending on Art supplies and magazines (heaven knows I have a storage full of supplies) in the basement. Less spending on clothes, until I've lost my ultimate weight goal. Ways I can accomplish this would be to:

To participate in the 2nd Hand Sale at Bizzy B where I get a store credit.
Really use all my art supplies before buying anything new.
Really use found objects for my art.
Have been using the library, so I'm not buying books and magazines.
Perhaps I can trade books or magazines.

Braved the crowd at St. Lawrence Market this morning. We bought some lobsters for the feast tonight, back ribs for a birthday celebration on Monday and fresh pasta for later on this week.

I keep forgetting there's a kitchen store called Placewares, right in the middle of the marketplace. It basically has all your kitchen needs, it really is a one stop shopping.

Maya: Secrets of their Ancient Worlds

Today we went to the ROM to check out the Maya exhibit. A journey into the farmsteads, temples and palaces. Most of the artifacts came from Mexico, especially from the famed city of Palenque.

I've always been fascinated with the Mayan ruins and Egyptian Pyramids -- how it can have a similar structure yet in two different side of the world.

Aidan didn't waste anytime creating his version of the Aidan's Ancient Civilization.

Adventures of Tintin

We watched the Adventures of Tintin this week. It's based on a series of classic comic book by a Belgian artist Georges Remi, whose pen name is Hergé. It's funny, I didn't give the comic books a second look before I watched the movie but I recently bought a book from Indigo. Great animation and story line. I gave this two thumbs up.

Weather Outside is Frightful....

Alright maybe the weather was not soooo frightful, but the drivers certainly were. I'm glad I wasn't driving tonight. I saw a 4x4 passed us, at least 10 km faster than us and this was on Don Mills Rd.

Aidan didn't waste anytime with the snowfight...he got me real good. Although he was really aiming for Wallace.

Love the serene look of winter and untouched snow.

Snickerdoodle was a big hit this year. Wallace made another batch and here are some all set for Santa w/ milk.

I was trying to make Linzer Cookies but they were the big Cookie dud of the year. I realized tonight why....I put too much butter. So it didn't make it to the Christmas Cookie Packages I made.

Pizzeria Libretto

Had dinner w/ friend at Pizzeria Libretto tonight. One located on Danforth and Carlaw, a few doors down from Moss. Excellent Italian style wood stove pizza. Does it beat Il Formello. Hmm. It's comparable and it offers different types of pizza and menu. I noticed that there were people coming into to order take out. Lovely idea!

Tiramisu is excellent served in a mason preserve jar.

I rate pizzeria Libretto two thumbs up, if you want to eat on dining table, I suggest to call ahead for reservation, otherwise your choice is to seat by the bar. Definitely well worth it and has become one of my Fave Restaurants.

Christmas Baking - Day 4: Snickerdoodle

These were baked by Wallace while Aidan and I went shopping for the Christmas presents. This recipe was from The Toronto Star Advent Cookie Calendar - Day 8: Snickerdoodles. I got scolded for picking the good cookie, since they weren't meant for his office workers (tee hee!) They were delicious, crispy on the outside and soft / melt in your mouth inside.

Last night we were at the Distillery District, it was cold but very festive with beautiful display of various artisan products; music in the background and beautiful festive lights. Being at the Distillery District brings me back in time and reminds me of the Old Montreal section and Quebec City walls.

Aidan and Wallace braved the Ferris Wheel but vowed never to go on it EVER AGAIN. LOL!

Cafe Uno is a nice place to just hang out, if you're trying to warm up...a variety of sandwiches and hot drinks.

I also found a place that I may end up hanging out in the new year, Pikto Gallery. It's offering some photography and Photoshop Classes.

Last year was my first year hosting the 100+ Reading Challenge. I noticed a TON of blogs are hosting it this year, so I thought I would up the challenge. For me 100 books is not a problem to read for one year. I know there are a lot of people out there who can read more than the base line of 100.

So....this year I am not only challenging myself, I am going to challenge you to read even more this year!

The goal is to reach 150+ books for this challenge? Now don't get discouraged! I know 150 books or more sounds like a lot. When you read the rules below though, you will find that it is quite easy to reach 150 books.

Don't be shy! Come sign up and spread the word! The challenge doesn't officially start until January 1rst, 2012 but I wanted to get it set up before the holidays are upon us. This should give you plenty of time to get yourself geared up for this challenge increase!

DETAILS/RULES:

1. The goal is to read 150 or more books. Anyone can join. You don't need a blog to participate. Posting on GoodReads or wherever you post your reviews is good enough.

2. Allowed are: Audio, Re-reads, eBooks, YA, Manga, Graphic Novels, Library books, Novellas, Young Reader, Nonfiction – as long as the book has an ISBN or equivalent or can be purchased as such, the book counts.

What doesn't count: Individual short stories or individual books in the Bible and comic books.

3. No need to list your books in advance. You may select books as you go. Even if you list them now, you can change the list if needed.

The Gingerbread, Aidan and Skele

Christmas Baking - Day 3: Rugelach and Sugar Cookies

Due to popular demand, I made some more Sugar Cookies tonight, but ran out of white icing, so there are some "naked" cookies. LOL! Rugelach is my other favourite, but I can't seem to cut it evenly into 12 wedges to make them all even.

I'm totally sapped out making cookies for the week.

Christmas Baking - Day 2: Cherry Walnut and Sugar Cookie Cutouts

I prepped the Cherry Walnut on Tuesday but I didn't bake it until tonight night along with the Sugar Cookie Cutouts. Aidan requested Sugar Cookie Cutouts and voila. I've always dreaded rolling out dough (I'm not sure why). This year it seemed easier to do the sugar cookies - easier in rolling out the dough, doing the cutouts and the icing. I guess it's true when they say practice makes perfect. I don't know about perfect, but it didn't take me eons to do it.

The Cherry Walnut also has some dried cranberries with it.

All these cookies are for my cookie exchange with my friends this Friday.

Decked the Halls

This year decorating the house came later than I wanted to. We bought the Christmas tree at a local Christmas tree store on Queen St. East last Monday. Wallace and Aidan decorated the tree the next day, while I was "partying" it up with my co-workers.

Christmas Baking - Day 1: Whole Wheat Pizza and Apple Turnover

I better step it up or else Christmas will come and go without any baked goods. LOL! On Sunday, I had potluck at work and Journal night, so I decided to make some Whole wheat pizza for the potluck and apple turnover for Journal Night.

The Whole Wheat Pizza is a pepperoni with garlic; substituted with canadian aged cheese and parmesan, instead of mozzarella (ran out).

The Combine Eatery

If you're in the Greektown area, you'll have to check out The Combine Eatery at 162 Danforth Avenue (East of Broadview, across from Allens). Just opened in the summer and known for their Fish Tacos. Although when Stephanie and I went there after the One of a Kind show, we decided not to have it...as it would have been a big portion to eat late at night and we really wanted to have some dessert. Instead, I ordered the Lobster fritters and this amazing Peanut Butter Banana Bread for dessert, which came highly recommended. And I have to second that.

Hmmm. it really was YUMMY TREATS!

One of a Kind Finds

I had a girl's night out with my friend Stephanie to One of a Kind Show. This time, we really pushed it... a couple of hours is definitely not enough, we rushed the last half of the show. There was a traffic jam on Lakeshore, Friday night due to some traffic lights not working but we eventually snaked around the streets to get to Direct Energy.

Christmas Ornaments by Fusion Art (Booth Y19) - bought quite a few of the ornaments. You might say I got carried away.

Sheepskin Insoles. That way I can wear dress socks or nylons to work. Usually ended up wearing wool socks...which is not very good with dress shoes.

My favourite colours change and evolve. The following colours reflect what I am wearing , accessories and the colours that I love to have in my home. These are my current five favourite colours:

Blue. This shouldn't surprise anyone. This colour always show up in my art, clothes, home decor.
Red. Surprisingly, this ended up as one of my fave colours. I used to think it was flashy. I guess my friend Sibel influenced me. I've been always conservative with the colours of accessories but I've been converted I now have red purse, red wallet and love splashing it in my art.
Black. I wear lots of black (50% of my clothing is black or has something black).
Violet. I didn't realize that I have quite a selection of violet shirts (long and short), until my sister-in-law mentioned it to me.
>Brown. I also love deep chocolate brown. Another colour which I have a huge selection of clothing. It also makes a great accents for around the house.

If I have a sixth fave colour, it would be gold mustard.

In Lego Heaven

Canada Post left a parcel tag yesterday addressed to A. Wong. We already have an inkling what it was, it was Michelle's Lego collection. So i picked it up before I went to Bizzy B to teach a class. When I came home tonight, Aidan was still up (no surprise there), so we opened the up the package. His gasp when he saw the box of Legos tell me he is Aidan land.

The ten minutes he rummaged through the Lego, he immediately spotted Batman, Skeleton (le squelette), black dragon (le dragon noire) and some alien looking Lego.

Gorgeous Day

Today was another gorgeous day, with temperature of 13 C, which is unusual for Toronto weather at this time of the year. It was an enjoyable day, we hit the Beaches this afternoon to find b-day gifts at Master Minds and lunch at the park. After our afternoon outing, it was garden cleanup and the debris cleanup that Wallace created in the morning on our porch. The porch ceiling / rafter was gutted this morning with the intention of re-installing foam insulation (hopefully it will be done this week).

It's an event put on by DECA (Danforth East Community Association) held on Nov 1 from 6:30pm-9:30pm. A great way to see your neighbourhood's pumpkin carving skills. This year we made a vampire pumpkin designed by Aidan, carved by Wallace.

The festivities started out during the weekend with the neighbour's Hallowe'en Party as Harry Potter; Pumpkin Carving; Hallowe'en Class party; Penny Arcade and Trick or Treating.

Fall Fair

In October just before Hallowe'en, Aidan's school has a Fall Fair (fete d'automne) We donated some baked goods and did some brain cupcakes. I have to admit, Wallace helped with the applying the icing on this one. I made the chocolate cupcakes and the buttercream frosting. Luckily we kept some for ourselves, because by the time we got to the Fall Fair, it was all gone.

Let me see, there were the usual activities, such as pony ride; petting zoo; bouncy castle; but there were some new activities - fishing games; picking lollipop for a stamp and beading booths. I also put my name for some of the raffle prizes. I bought three tickets and apparently, I was told by one of the parents that I won. Hmm. I know I didn't win the "movie night" package. Could it be the dinner at Il Fornello and movie night tickets or the four bottle of wines. Hmm. It definitely was great day!

Now if I can only win the Lotto Max or 6/49, the way I win raffle prizes and contests....I'd be in heaven.

Pampered Chef Cooking Show

Last night I hosted a Pampered Chef Cooking Show for my friends and Ali Squires was our Pampered Chef. For those who knows about their products can only rave and swear by it. I became a convert and hooked on their products when I was invited by a friend in July.

My fave Pampered Chef products, so far are the rectangular bar pan, signature rectangular dish and mix n' scraper.

It was a fun night of food tasting, drinks and demo.

Family of Bebe

One of my friends gave Aidan his first teddy bear and Bebe has pretty much grown with him through out the years. The family has also grown.

The story behind the two Bebe is that in order for Bebe to be washed we had to leave one with him. So we decided to buy another one and we did the old switcheroo. You may ask why we couldn't just wash it at night, well we tried, but Aidan had such a hold on Bebe, that if we took it away, he would cry and fuss. The little bebe, Wallace later found at a gift store. That's when Aidan thought Bebe shrunk, when he first saw him. LOL!

Tarts and Pies

Between apple picking, Thanksgiving dinner and riping bananas, I did some baking the last two weeks. For dinner at my in-laws, I baked pumpkin tarts; for Thankgiving dinner with Wallace and Aidan, I baked Apple Pie and last weekend a new banana bread recipe (using cake and pastry flour instead of all-purpose flour). I'm not sure I liked the banana bread.

We spent one night at Muskoka to see the fall leaves. As you can see the leaves haven't changed to their fiery red / orange colours. It was a nice retreat all the same. As you can see, the little man was very relaxed and at home.

Totem - Cirque du Soleil

Whenever I see this big top tent setup down at the Cherry Street, I get excited. We went to see Cirque du Soleil's Totem tonight and as usual CDS doesn't disappoint. It was another brilliant and amazing show. What's not to love, the music was awesome; the costumes were so colourful; the stage props were innovative and creative; the choreography was flawless and acts were amazing, as usual. It was very hard to choose a favourite - is it the five chinese girls on the unicycle with stacked metal bowls; the two trapeze couple beautifully choreographed; is it the hoop - dancers; is it the italian clown or Mr. Bean like clown.

This is another CDS show not to be missed.

Lose First Tooth

Waiting for the tooth to come out.

It's an exciting weekend for Aidan, he lose his first tooth and had a visit from the tooth fairy last night. It's actually been a long time coming. The dentist mentioned that he would lose one of his tooth in a few weeks based on the visit we had, at the end of July. About a month and a half later, he finally lose his tooth and a had a great big smile. The only thing he didn't like was the taste of blood.

In the plastic bag where I placed his tooth, it said: "j'ai perdu ma dent, aujourd'hui - Sept 25, 2011". He asked me what it says and when I read it out to him, he asked me, if the tooth fairy comes from France or whether he/she can understand French or other languages.

I used to take photos in manual mode on my dad's Pentax 35mm camera, but throughout the last few years, I've grown accustomed to using digital camera point and shoot. Everything is all coming back....and feel more comfortable using my Nikon D90.

Zumba

Zumba^® has been around quite a few years and I've enjoyed it when I took the classes at the Oxygen and Goodlife Fitness. It's an exhilirating and easy to follow exercise which includes music with fast and slow rhythms and resistance training for fitness and losing weight. The music comes from the following dance styles: cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, cha cha cha and soca. It's popular than ever.

I've missed going to the classes, so I decided to go tonight.

Terry Fox Run 2011

It was a beautiful and sunny day, perfect day to do run, walk or bike for Terry Fox Run. My hubby (Wallace), Aidan, my friend Ana and I spent a few hours Wilket Creek Park to do our 10km bike / run/ walk for Terry Fox Run. While Aidan and Wallace took off on bike and foot (respectively), my friend and I spent the time walking and chatting / catching up on the events of the summer.

This year, we raised $945.00, as a team. Thank you to everyone who pledged and donated, your continued support and encouragement is greatly appreciated.

No, no, I'm not asking for help. S.O.S club meeting started again and went to the meeting last night. It was a good meeting with great demos on this folded card; making flowers from different punches and Zentangle (a form of doodling, as a form of meditation and getting into the "zen" or is that "zone". It's nice see some friendly faces, I haven't seen in awhile.

And where there are raffles, you know who joins. Last night I won these scrapbook pages and rhinestone stickers.

Today was registration for the Toronto Parks and Recreation programs.

The one thing I dread is missing registration for the recreation programmes, so I set every available alarms in the room. The one good thing about getting a good night sleep is that I end up waking up after seven hours of sleep. Which is what exactly happened this morning? I was able to get the first choices for swimming and ball hockey.

Speaking of swimming....

This weekend we trekked over to the zoo to see the African Penguins. Wallace and Aidan already saw them when they went in June, but wanted to see them. I didn't realize that they were small, I was expecting big penguins like the size of the Emperor Penguins. What was I thinking? But they are still adorable.

This photo was take for the Shutter Speed assignment. It's the water flowing from the aquarium filter with some of Wallace's live plants in the background.

This photo was taken for the Aperture assignment. I grew some gladiolas on a big container and it had a couple of blooms that Aidan gave to his teacher for her birthday last week. Honestly, I had nothing to do with it. He came home the day before saying that it's his teacher's b-day and he wanted to make a card and giver her flowers. How sweet is that?

Soccer Tournament

Soccer seems to be in everyone's agenda today, at least it was for the East York Soccer club. Aidan's team East York Rotary Club played one game today. They all played really well and the three months of playing together paid off, because they played, as a team and won 2-1. After the game all the members U6 team received their trophies at Dieppe Park. I must admit, they have that event run like clock work.

My brother was in town for a week, I think it's the longest he's ever stayed (ha! ha!) to visit, since he moved to NJ.

It was nice to see him. He was able to see his friends and take on a lot of golfing.
